THE GREENHOUSE EFFECT: MAJOR CAUSES
3 main polluting gases contribute to this. THE GREENHOUSE EFFECT is the warming of the layer of air surrounding the Earth.
C02 which is produced by fossil fuels; CH4 which is produced by gas leaks and decomposing wastes; CFCs which are in refrigerators, air conditioners and aerosols. People should reduce the use of these gases, because, because large concentrations of these gases could cause major weather upheavals such as hurricanes, flooding and droughts which could have adverse affects on life on Earth.

HAZARDS LINKED TO URBAN DEVELOPMENT
Environmental modifications and urbanization increase the risk of flooding.
Waterproof asphalt-covered surfaces and buildings allow water to run off during heavy rains. Too many trees have been removed from urban areas, leaving cities without enough vegetation to absorb heavy rains. In addition the construction of highways often change the natural path of waterways. During periods precipitation, these highways act like canals and cause the water to run faster, overflowing and flooding surrounding areas.
